Diamond Waste Plays Pivotal Role
During Construction of Baltimore's First
LEED Certified Green Hotel
Diamond Waste (Glen Burnie, MD) provided dumpster and recycling services for construction of the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in downtown Baltimore. This hotel has the distinction of being the first eco friendly, USGBC* LEED** Certified Silver, hotel in Baltimore and one of the first in the United States.
For it's part in helping the hotel to achieve LEED Certified Silver, Diamond Waste removed a total of 369 tons of construction waste and debris. Of that, 316 tons, or 85% total, including drywall, cardboard, wood, metal, concrete, masonry and other miscellaneous materials were fully recycled. Removal and recycling of this debris contributed toward the facility earning USGBC LEED Materials and Resources Credits 2.1 and 2.2 which require diversion of 75% construction waste materials from the landfill.
Diamond Waste utilized its proprietary computer tracking program to document ongoing waste removal and recycling during the hotel construction. Regular printed reports throughout the job process assured compliance with LEED requirements. These reports classify the amounts of specific materials recycled along with the recycling destinations. Diamond Waste was able to regularly discuss recycling progress with job site managers and actively look for ways to improve results and avoid potential problems. At the projects completion these recycling reports served as the official documentation required for the LEED Certification process.
